This video is in memory of Barry Wells, a commercial fisher who was lost at sea in 1999. His wife Jude and daughter Amanda talk about their experiences and ongoing loss still felt 20 years on. MarineSAFE was developed in an effort to prevent any more families having to deal with the loss or serious injury to their loved ones. This is our WHY.
Government statistics advise that the fishing industry has one of the highest rates of ACC claims and a survey published by Maritime NZ in 2017reported that only half the workers surveyed had completed any training in the past12 months.
These findings reinforce the need to deliver new innovative health and safety training programmes with a consistent approach to safe work practices so that a culture of safety is developed which is transferable across the industry.
Every organisation has a responsibility to look after their people. To keep them safe and productive we need to ensure that the training they receive is relevant and meets the needs of the learner.
42% of adult learners do not have the communication skills they need to perform their jobs
Our learning programmes are engaging video-based resources aimed at ensuring that EVERYONE has the ability to understand the “why” and “how” to improve their health and safety skill set.
A research report developed over a decade ago highlights that relevancy of the training material is key and by adding innovation the benefits grow…MarineSAFE is relevant and innovative training.
MarineSAFE has been supported by ACC and the NZ Federation of Commercial Fishermen so the first 8 resources developed are FREE and available to all fishers and others keen to learn about our industry.
